Assistant Editor, Short-Form Science Clips
From First Principles is looking for a remote assistant editor to help turn long-form science conversations into compelling short-form videos for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and related platforms.
This is a small-team role with a real growth purpose: clips are the bread and butter of how the show reaches new people. We have built the workflow to make the handoff lighter, but we still need someone with taste, judgment, and enough scientific fluency to tell the right story.
Target rhythm
Ramp toward 3-4 clips per day when the show is fully humming.
Starting scope
Begin with a smaller weekly batch while we transition the workflow.
Core medium
Vertical clips for social, built from long-form science conversations.
The role
What you will do
Review episode transcripts, clip candidates, and weekly editorial notes in FFP Studio.
Find strong moments and shape them into polished vertical clips for social.
Refine hooks, pacing, captions, trims, and visual presentation.
Submit finished clips through the FFP Studio review workflow for approval.
Join a short weekly sync to align on episode focus, scientific context, and clip priorities.
Good fit
We care about scientific judgment
You have a technical, scientific, medical, engineering, research, or science-writing background.
You can understand why a scientific idea matters and translate that into a human hook.
You have strong editorial taste for short-form video, especially educational or podcast content.
You are comfortable with timeline-based editing. Experience in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, Final Cut, CapCut, or similar tools translates well, but the work happens directly in FFP Studio.
You can work asynchronously and communicate clearly when a moment needs more context.
How the workflow works
The editing handoff is built into FFP Studio
One of the reasons this role can be remote and lightweight is that we built FFP Studio around the clipping workflow.
Source material is already in FFP Studio
At the end of each shoot, we upload horizontal and vertical video. FFP Studio keeps the source video, transcripts, clip candidates, and review state in one place.
Start from suggested candidates
The app generates clip candidates and transcript context, so the role is not starting from a blank timeline.
Edit directly in FFP Studio
FFP Studio includes a timeline-based editor for building clips from scratch or refining candidates, then submitting them for review and approval.
Start with a paid trial period, then grow with the show.
We are a small team, so this begins as a part-time paid contract role. The goal is to define a trial period around an initial set of clips, make sure the workflow feels good on both sides, then ramp into a repeatable weekly package as the show grows.
